Let's Play HORRIFIED is a video in the Board Game Club series.

"Thatcher smash!"
Dom

Notable moments[]

  • The first rule of Board Game Club is "a graveyard smash".
  • Will our players conquer their demons or will the monsters mash?
  • Laurie gives us nicely thematic hellos: Spooky Sullivan, Horrible Holly, Dreadful Dom.
  • We start at no Teri (hi Teri!), moving up the Teri scale, getting louder as we go up (or possibly more Teris arrive).
  • We should be careful when forcefully 'curing' a werewolf that we're not just tormenting an innocent dog. Dom: "We thought we were fighting the wolfman, we were fighting the man-dog!"
  • We can't identify who last ate garlic while Teri is in the room. She's French, you know.
  • All hail the Tower of Destiny! Dom really needs to work on his song.
  • Automatic captioning is going to struggle with our impressions today.
  • Continuing with a theme, Dom seems to have moved on from Stalin to Margaret Thatcher. For those of us of a certain age and cultural background, thus begins a genuinely horrifying episode. Shoulda had a trigger warning, to be honest.
  • We have a new edit feature - the dice trays are shown in picture-in-picture, which works really well.
  • We're not taking Thatcher's opinion on anything - we don't think he IS a wolfman, Sully: "he's just a Scouser[1]!" She's just never met the working class.
  • Laurie: "What do you think the cure for Scouse is?" Dom (as Thatcher): "Hard work!"
  • We get our first Hunt - the Scouser's caught a whiff of Holly. Whoopsie.
  • JOKE OF THE DAY! some nonsense about teeth and Dracula, to be honest, including not just 'tooth things' and 'fangs a bunch' but also the classic 'pain in the neck'.
  • Thatcher! Thatcher! Coffin smasher! Sullivan: "She's such an effective leader!"
  • The wolf-man is going to attack Holly twice - it's getting very hairy! (that makes Teri laugh). Luckily she's very dogged (that makes everyone groan).
  • Our first defeat - and our first Teri on the Teri tracker. It's a bird call of some kind.
  • We can cure the Scouser, but we have a Glaswegian and a Yorkshireman all of a sudden.
  • Thatcher punches the Creature from the Black Lagoon and doesn't understand what its saying.
  • Sullivan: "For people thinking at home that I've got a bad Glaswegian accent, I was born there - so shut the fuck up!" Turns out every word Sullivan says is really in a thick Glaswegian accent, he's just constantly overdubbed by Andy Datson from the WrestleTalk office. It's in his contract.
  • We've rescued our first villager, that's nice.
  • Laurie: "Imagine being a Scouser and being beaten to death with a silver cane!" The cure needs to be administered violently, it seems.
  • And we're one monster down!
  • We're pitching a new gameshow: Smash that Coffin! with Margaret Thatcher. It's every bit as horrifying as you may imagine.
  • Anti-union policies are somehow starting to make sense. Shudder.
  • Sullivan's history time again - but technically that's an urban legend.
  • Dom: "She'll be tough on vampires - and the causes of vampires!"
  • We all know there's lots of joking insults flung around with NRB - but surely it's going too far to suggest there are any similarities between Holly and Thatcher.
  • Laurie: "You guys just keep doing bits about Thatcher - I'll do the fucking game ... I'll play on my own, I don't mind". DomThatcher claims all of the success so far has been hers.
  • Dom: "Standing around, discussing Marx in your neck beards. Get back to work!" Laurie is carrying on determinedly. Sullivan and Dom have gone completely.
  • Up to Teri level 2 - we're getting slightly shriller.
  • We're not scared. We can tell from the extreme high pitch of Laurie's voice. Looks like all the current monsters are activating all at once.
  • Up to Teri 3 - louder and higher. Laurie's wondering if we're even going to have the range for level 7.
  • Holly: "Fuck off, Margaret Thatcher!"
  • The vampire reminds Thatcher of her late husband. It's the dank pallor.
  • Teri 4! Holly: "There's range, there's growth, there's flexibility". Teri: "Thank you guys, I feel really supported right now".
  • And we kill the rest of the monsters - Thatcher's taking all the credit.
  • We end with a demonstration of the full Teri spectrum - 0 to 7

  1. For our non-UK viewers, a Scouser is a native of the city of Liverpool, in the north of England. Large parts of the city are working class and not supporters of former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. More than that, you're going to have to Wikipedia it, I'm afraid.
